Jolie Keitel joined WSCC as Co-Executive Director in July, 2016. She fell in love with our Center during a year and a half stint as Administrative Assistant and then Community Program Coordinator here in 2014. Jolie holds degrees from the University of Florida in History and a Master’s Degree from Florida State University in International Affairs. She spent several semesters abroad in Eastern Europe which only solidified her love of getting to know new people, multi-cultural interaction, and developing community. She is excited to bring her diverse skill set to our family, and is eager to grow with the Community Center. Jolie was instrumental in starting our Going Green Initiative two years ago, and is thrilled to continue that program. She is a resident of the West Washington Park neighborhood since 2013 , and in her spare time enjoys camping, backpacking, and enjoying all Colorado has to offer with her fiancé Joey and their best friend Hermes the pug.
Cristie Martin officially took on the leadership of WSCC in September 2015 after joining WSCC as the Chief Financial Officer in August 2014. She is a proven leader in non-profit management, public administration and program development with strong organizational, management, fundraising and problem solving skills. Prior to her employment at WSCC, she successfully ran a community development organization in Commerce City called Community Enterprise. While there, she grew the agency’s budget by four times.
Rebecca Armentrout – Children’s Program Director

Rebecca Armentrout joined Washington Street Community Center in November of 2014. With a Bachelors in Psychology with a focus in Child Development and Parenting from Metropolitan University of Colorado, she has worked in Early Childhood Education since 2004 in a variety of community based programs. As an Early Childhood Specialist she has been an advocate for ECE Quality Improvement and Social Emotional Education. Working within programs such as Denver Great Kids Head Start and Arapahoe House, she has carried with her the importance of working with families and the community as partners.
Jennifer Crandell – Education Coordinator
Jennifer has been working as a preschool teacher for the past six years in Denver. She also has experience as an after school program teacher at Cory Elementary. Jennifer holds an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in Elementary Education, and is planning to attend Graduate School soon. She has extensive experience in planning and implementing different types of activities for many ages of children, and always ensures a fun and safe, atmosphere for the children she works with.
Gaby Castillo – Teacher
Gaby is originally from California and has now been in Colorado for four years. She has several years experience working with children and absolutely loves it! She has studied and tutored abroad teaching English and Spanish in Mexico, Spain, Chile and Argentina. She believes her role as an educator is to recognize each student’s individuality and help them cultivate their unique qualities in a creative and positive environment.
Kathy Hayes – Teacher
Ms. Kathy Hayes is an educator of Health and Physical Activity, with her roots in teaching beginning with Head Start in its early years. She received her B.A. from Southwestern College in Kansas and her M.A. Physical Education Admin., from the University of Northern Colorado as well as,an M.A. in Education Leadership from Kansas State University. Kathy’s career as an educator includes the Denver Public Schools, Douglas County Schools and an interim in the Cherry Creek Schools. Kathy continues to advocate for Dance Education in the public schools and loves Latin Dancing for a social outing. She is active with local Arts projects for youth, serving as a choreographer. She is known to be an avid fan of professional football, basketball, gymnastics and track/field. Her love of the outdoors, riding horses and owning dogs soothes her soul and Kathy hopes to pursue animal therapy as a retirement hobby.
Sandra Smith – Teacher
Sandra has been a preschool teacher for 25+ years. She believes openness is the key to accepting that all children have the potential to be successful, and learn things at their own pace, safely and confidently. In 1981, Sandra received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Kansas City Art Institute. After graduating, she went onto receive a Master of Arts in Visual Art at the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1987. Sandra moved to Colorado in 1992. She attended The Community College of Denver and the Metropolitan State University of Denver taking Early Childhood courses to further her education from 2012 to 2015. Sandra has joined Washington Street Community Center because of our personable family environment and warm, compassionate teachers. She is thrilled to be teaching with small class size offering opportunities to teach in a one-on-one learning environment.
Moira Smith joined WSCC as Administrative Assistant in July, 2016. She is a new resident of Denver and West Washington Park, coming to us most recently from Minnesota, and originally from Annapolis, Maryland. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Carleton College and majored in Studio Art. She is excited to bring her energy, enthusiasm and ideas to the WSCC family. In her spare time, Moira enjoys hiking, cooking, making art and spending time with her boyfriend, Andre and cat, Sasha.
Anita Martin – Graphics & Marketing
After serving on the WSCC Board of Directors for several years, Anita joins WSCC in Marketing & Communications. She holds a degree in Speech Communications from Colorado State University, owns and operates her own graphic design company, and has been a proud resident of the West Washington Park neighborhood since 1996.
