Jolie Brawner – Executive Director

Jolie Brawner joined WSCC as Executive Director in July, 2016. She fell in love with our Center during a year and a half stint as Administrative Assistant and then Community Program Coordinator here in 2014. Jolie holds degrees from the University of Florida in History and a Master’s Degree from Florida State University in International Affairs. She spent several semesters abroad in Eastern Europe which only solidified her love of getting to know new people, multi-cultural interaction, and developing community. She is excited to bring her diverse skill set to our family, and is eager to grow with the Community Center. Jolie was instrumental in starting our Going Green Initiative two years ago, and is thrilled to continue that program. She is a resident of the West Washington Park neighborhood since 2013 , and in her spare time enjoys camping, backpacking, and enjoying all Colorado has to offer with her fiancé Joey and their best friend Hermes the pug.

Cristie Martin officially took on the leadership of WSCC in September 2015 after joining WSCC as the Chief Financial Officer in August 2014. She is a proven leader in non-profit management, public administration and program development with strong organizational, management, fundraising and problem solving skills.  Prior to her employment at WSCC, she successfully ran a community development organization in Commerce City called Community Enterprise. While there, she grew the agency’s budget by four times.

Cathrine (pronounced Katrina) is a longtime early education professional, as well as a child and family advocate. With over 25 years experience in the field, she has worked as a teacher, curriculum specialist, director and coach.  She earned a Master’s degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in Early Childhood Special and Regular Education and her PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Denver.  She is extremely dedicated to young children and their families.

Cathrine comes to us from the Colorado Department of Education, where she was served as the Colorado Preschool Program Director for the state.  Previously, she was at Denver Public Schools as an Early Education Specialist with preschool community sites.  Past workplaces include; Catholic Charities, Auraria Child Care Center and Saddleback College Child Development Center.

Cathrine has two daughters, Hanna who is 15 and attends Arapahoe High School, and Emma who leaves for Chapman University in the fall. She has been married for over 20 years to RJ, a firefighter for the City of Aurora. She loves to travel, mostly to Norway where the majority of her family lives and to California to visit her mom and school friends.

Jennifer Crandell – Education Coordinator

Email: EDC@wscc-denver.orgJennifer has been working as a preschool teacher for the past six years in Denver.  She also has experience as an after school program teacher at Cory Elementary.  Jennifer holds an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in Elementary Education, and is planning to attend Graduate School soon. She has extensive experience in planning and implementing different types of activities for many ages of children, and always ensures a fun and safe, atmosphere for the children she works with.

Rebecca Armentrout joined Washington Street Community Center in November of 2014. With a Bachelors in Psychology with a focus in Child Development and Parenting from Metropolitan University of Colorado, she has worked in Early Childhood Education since 2004 in a variety of community based programs. As an Early Childhood Specialist she has been an advocate for ECE Quality Improvement and Social Emotional Education. Working within programs such as Denver Great Kids Head Start and Arapahoe House, she has carried with her the importance of working with families and the community as partners.

Gaby is originally from California and has now been in Colorado for four years. She has several years experience working with children and absolutely loves it! She has studied and tutored abroad teaching English and Spanish in Mexico, Spain, Chile and Argentina. She believes her role as an educator is to recognize each student’s individuality and help them cultivate their unique qualities in a creative and positive environment.

Bryan Sherva – Teacher

Bryan was born in Minnesota and lived there for 25 years. He worked at Oxbow Creek Elementary for 2 years as a reading tutor as well as a before & after school child care assistant. Bryan believes all children should have a hands-on learning experience in and out of the classroom. He is currently taking classes at Red Rocks Community College towards becoming an elementary teacher. His loves are camping and going to concerts. He is also diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. SKOL.

Maureen is originally from Texas and moved to Colorado after graduating college. Maureen earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and also holds a Child Development Associate Credential. She loves the outdoors and has spent time traveling the globe. While working as a ski instructor, she found a joy and passion for working with children. She became a certified preschool teacher shortly after moving to Colorado.  She has been working for three and a half years as a preschool teacher.  In her spare time she enjoys hiking, wake-boarding, and skiing with her dog Cooper.

Suzanne joined WSCC in November 2017, bringing over twelve years of experience working with children in various capacities. Since graduating from Auburn University with a degree in Psychology, she has enjoyed roles as a nanny, assistant preschool teacher, caregiver for children with special needs, and teacher at a children’s health and fitness center.  Suzanne is passionate about educating children in a positive environment that helps them develop physically, emotionally, and cognitively. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, live music, and spending time with her husband, Matt, and their pup, Stella.

Erin joined WSCC in January of 2018 after returning to Denver from a 12 month travel sabbatical in New Zealand and Southeast Asia! Originally from Virginia, Erin moved to Colorado to attend the University of Denver where she graduated with a BA in International Studies and Spanish. She quickly fell in love with all of the skiing, hiking, and backpacking fun of Colorado and decided to make Denver her home (minus a few years of travel)! Erin is a part of the West Wash Park neighborhood and is excited to work in the community and gain lots of non-profit experience working with WSCC!

After serving on the WSCC Board of Directors for several years, Anita joins WSCC in Marketing & Communications. She holds a degree in Speech Communications from Colorado State University, owns and operates her own graphic design company, and has been a proud resident of the West Washington Park neighborhood since 1996.
