Jolie Brawner – Executive Director

Jolie Brawner joined WSCC as Executive Director in July, 2016. She fell in love with our Center during a year and a half stint as Administrative Assistant and then Community Program Coordinator here in 2014. Jolie holds degrees from the University of Florida in History and a Master’s Degree from Florida State University in International Affairs. She spent several semesters abroad in Eastern Europe which only solidified her love of getting to know new people, multi-cultural interaction, and developing community. She is excited to bring her diverse skill set to our family, and is eager to grow with the Community Center. Jolie was instrumental in starting our Going Green Initiative two years ago, and is thrilled to continue that program. She is a resident of the West Washington Park neighborhood since 2013 , and in her spare time enjoys camping, backpacking, and enjoying all Colorado has to offer with her husband Joey and their best friend Hermes the pug.

Cristie Martin officially took on the leadership of WSCC in September 2015 after joining WSCC as the Chief Financial Officer in August 2014. She is a proven leader in non-profit management, public administration and program development with strong organizational, management, fundraising and problem solving skills.  Prior to her employment at WSCC, she successfully ran a community development organization in Commerce City called Community Enterprise. While there, she grew the agency’s budget by four times.

Celia Horowitz joins WSCC as the Children’s Program Director. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and loves a good slice of thin crust pizza! She attended Tulane University in New Orleans for undergrad, where she received a degree in Child Psychology. Soon after, she moved to Denver and became a preschool teacher in the Cherry Creek School District. Last year she returned to school at Metro State University to gain a leveling certificate in Speech Pathology. Her teaching philosophy centers on creating an environment where children feel included and are comfortable to explore, express themselves, and extend their social skills in fun and engaging ways. In her free time she likes to travel, explore different cuisine, and get outdoors in this beautiful state!

 

Jennifer Crandell – Education Coordinator

Email: EDC@wscc-denver.orgJennifer has been working as a preschool teacher for the past six years in Denver.  She also has experience as an after school program teacher at Cory Elementary.  Jennifer holds an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in Elementary Education, and is planning to attend Graduate School soon. She has extensive experience in planning and implementing different types of activities for many ages of children, and always ensures a fun and safe, atmosphere for the children she works with.

Gaby is originally from California and has now been in Colorado for four years. She has several years experience working with children and absolutely loves it! She has studied and tutored abroad teaching English and Spanish in Mexico, Spain, Chile and Argentina. She believes her role as an educator is to recognize each student’s individuality and help them cultivate their unique qualities in a creative and positive environment.

Bryan Sherva – Teacher

Bryan was born in Minnesota and lived there for 25 years. He worked at Oxbow Creek Elementary for 2 years as a reading tutor as well as a before & after school child care assistant. Bryan believes all children should have a hands-on learning experience in and out of the classroom. He is currently taking classes at Red Rocks Community College towards becoming an elementary teacher. His loves are camping and going to concerts. He is also diehard Minnesota Vikings fan. SKOL.

Maureen O’Neill – Teacher

Maureen is originally from Texas and moved to Colorado after graduating college. Maureen earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and also holds a Child Development Associate Credential. She loves the outdoors and has spent time traveling the globe. While working as a ski instructor, she found a joy and passion for working with children. She became a certified preschool teacher shortly after moving to Colorado.  She has been working for three and a half years as a preschool teacher.  In her spare time she enjoys hiking, wake-boarding, and skiing with her dog Cooper.

Katie Huber grew up in this incredible mountain state of Colorado.  She has four beautiful children and an amazing husband, and her family and faith mean the world to her.  She loves reading a great book, communing with good friends and enjoying a good laugh.  Katie is grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your children — They make her smile!

Emily Karsten – Assistant Teacher

Emily moved here from Michigan in May to be in the mountains. She loves snowboarding and is super excited to finally be able to do it here! She has her degree in political science and environmental studies but has been working with children since high school.

Dylan Smith – Assistant Teacher

Dylan grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina and attended school at Colombia International University in Columbia, South Carolina where he majored in Psychology. During his senior year he interned at a foster home and realized that it was something that he thoroughly enjoyed. He enjoys how quickly children can learn and those special moments when they seem to really grasp a new concept. Helping kids through challenging situations is incredibly rewarding for Dylan, and it is something that helps both him and the children learn and improve.

Brittany Gilliland – Assistant Teacher

Brittany is currently in school to earn her degree in Early Childhood Education and hopes to get her Masters in this field. She loves working with younger children because they keep her motivated during the day and always keep a smile on her face!

Olivia joined WSCC in August of 2018. Originally a Denver-native, Olivia graduated from the University of Colorado-Denver with a BA in English. After seizing an opportunity to cycle-tour in South America, she pursued a Master’s Degree in Integrative Health with an emphasis in Community Nutrition Education from the Maryland University of Integrative Health. Her background focuses on community programming and health promotion. She is excited to gain non-profit experience and make a meaningful contribution in the community alongside the WSCC team!

When she is not at work or traveling around the world on her bicycle (Logansbiking.blog), Olivia can be found rock climbing, practicing yoga, cooking, and renovating her home in the Baker neighborhood!

After serving on the WSCC Board of Directors for several years, Anita joins WSCC in Marketing & Communications. She holds a degree in Speech Communications from Colorado State University, owns and operates her own graphic design company, and has been a proud resident of the West Washington Park neighborhood since 1996.
